Built in the Dravidian architectural style in the 8th century, this temple is glorified in the Divya Prabandha, sacred Tamil stories. It is one of the 108 Divya Desam dedicated to Vishnu, who is worshipped here as Pundarikakshan, and his consort Lakshmi as Pankajavalli. Its ancient gopuram, amazing structure, ninth century Swastika-shaped tank, and cave-temple inscriptions make it one of the sights of the region.
