VEDANTHANGAL BIRD SANCTUARY

One of the largest bird sanctuaries in the country and also the oldest. Its 30-hectare marshy park and its large lake welcome more than 100,000 migratory birds every year. It is between November and March that they are the most numerous: herons, pelicans, white ibis, cormorants, teals, spoonbills, sandpipers, etc. Located 75 km from Chennai, the sanctuary is however more easily accessible from the cities of Chengalpattu or Madurantakam.
