A beautiful historic beach 16 km north of Calicut, where you can stroll along the long promenade in the shade of the trees
The beautiful historic beach of Kappad is located 16 km north of Calicut. Vasco da Gama, the famous Portuguese navigator, landed here on May 20, 1498 with 170 sailors, as indicated by the memorial column not far from the beach. Today it is a place for strolling and one comes to stroll on the long promenade in the shade of the trees. The beach is not suitable for swimming because of the strong currents and deep waters. To get there, take the bus from Calicut to Badagara and Thalasserry and stop at Thiruvangoor.
