From the airport to the city centre Tanger

The Ibn Batouta airport is not served by any public transport. So you have to take a large cab to get to the city. A large sign at the exit of the airport gives the fixed rates for Tangier, Asilah, Tetouan and Larache.

Arrival by train Tanger

All trains arrive at the LGV station in Tangier City, located in the shadow of the Hilton Hotel, east of the medina and a short distance from the corniche. You can book a train ticket on the ONCF website (https://www.oncf.ma/fr/).

Arrival by boat Tanger

The shipping company GNV serves the port of Tangier-Med from Sète, Genoa and Barcelona (www.gnv.it). FRS (www.frs.es), Inter Shipping and Africa Morocco Link (https://aml.ma/fr) provide daily connections between Tangier-Med and Algeciras, or between the port of Tangier-City and Tarifa. From Tangier-Med, buses and large cabs shuttle passengers to the city center, some 40 km away.

Public transport Tanger

Tangier is served by an urban bus network operated by ALSA(www.alsa.ma). The numerous lines ensure good coverage of the city, although most tourist attractions are concentrated and can be reached on foot. Line 3 runs between Tanger-Med port and Tanger-Ville station. Line 5 runs from the Iberia district to Parc Perdicaris. The iklhas card is used like a rechargeable pass. It costs 25 DH and can be purchased directly on board the bus.

Bike, scooters & co Tanger

Tangier, with its hills overlooking the bay or the ocean, is not an ideal city for cycling. What's more, the traffic is quite chaotic, and it would be taking unnecessary risks. Electric scooters have recently arrived in the city, adding another stress factor.

With a driver Tanger

The little turquoise andyellow cabs criss-cross the city and provide short runs. They are equipped with a meter. Make sure your driver turns it on. If he refuses (which is very rare), take another one. Small cabs are not always privatized. So don't be surprised if other passengers join you for all or part of your journey.

The large sand-colored cabs are either stylish but dangerous old Mercedes or comfortable new Lodgy. They'll take you wherever you want to go around Tangier. You can either privatize them or share them. In this case, the cab only starts when it's full.

By car Tanger

The parking spaces are guarded by men wearing blue coats and badges. They'll help you maneuver and keep an eye on your vehicle. The cost is 2 DH for a short stop, 5 DH for a few hours and 10 DH for a night. The city center is equipped with parking meters. If you park for a short time, check with the attendant, who often keeps the tickets of drivers who haven't stayed the full hour.

The city has a growing number of underground parking lots. You'll find them on the Corniche, Place des Nations, Avenue Prince Héritier and near Place du Grand Socco.

Accessibility Tanger

The city of Tangier, built on hills, is not suitable for wheelchair users or children with baby carriages. Steep alleyways, incessant ascents and descents, staircases both in the old town and in the small hotels and riads, turn a visit to Tangier into an obstacle course for people with reduced mobility.

Tourist traps Tanger

If you choose to travel from city to city in a large cab, you will have to negotiate the fare. Ask around for the acceptable rate for your trip in order to help you in your negotiation which can take long minutes...
