The Bolshekhekhtsirsky Nature Reserve (Большехехцирский заповедни), created in 1963, covers about 45,500 ha. Some parts are open to visitors, such as the Nature Museum and a hiking trail (about 1 hour walk). A true sanctuary of wildlife, it is located less than 45 km southwest of Khabarovsk, at the confluence of the Amur and Ussuri rivers in the Sikhote-Alin mountains. In the south of the reserve, the taiga is transformed into subtropical forest. More than 35 species of mammals, including the Amur tiger, bears, foxes, buffalos, and more than 190 species of birds find refuge here. Most tourist agencies in Khabarovsk organize day tours. @zapoved.ru/catalog/12
