District District centre, located on the Nadym River, Nadym was granted city status in 1972. Extraction of natural gas (Medvejïé reservoir), via pipeline to the Ural-Povoljïé Centre. The river Nadym is 545 km long and takes its source at Lake Noumto in the Massif Ouvaly massif and flows into the Obskaïa bay of the Kara Sea. It is navigable from the town of Nadym.
