The American military and the television series made the beach world famous under the name of China Beach. This is quite a feat when you consider the complex relationship between Vietnam and its large northern neighbor! In the summer of 2010, city officials were upset that a brochure advertising a major resort praised China Beach. The brochure was banned and it was pointed out that the beach was called Non Nuoc (Mountains and Waters). The incident occurred against the backdrop of tensions between China and Vietnam over sovereignty disputes over archipelagos in the South China Sea - or rather the East Sea!
