Ban Dôn is known for the great elephant race held every two years since 1985.

The surrounding forests are still frequented by herds of wild elephants. Due to deforestation and population pressure, they are finding it increasingly difficult to survive, and cohabitation with humans is sometimes difficult. The problem is difficult: the authorities must ensure the protection of crops, villages and their inhabitants and at the same time try to safeguard the last specimens of wild elephants.
