SALZILLO MUSEUM
Museum dedicated to the works of the Murcian sculptor, Francisco Salzillo, known for his Spanish Baroque style, including the crib with its statuettes
In the church of Jesus, this very interesting museum is devoted to the main works of the murician sculptor Francisco Salzillo (1707-1783), one of the most famous of Spanish baroque. The visit begins at the top and gradually descends around the church to end up in its center. It is in the first room that one can see the famous nursery (El Belén), started by Salzillo and pursued by his disciple Roque López, which is today one of the most important in the world (556 statuettes in total) representing religious characters and daily life, very expressive. The nine pasos of the holy week (8 of Salzillo and one anonymous), a group of carved characters that compose the scenes of Christ's passion - are exposed in the alveoles of a circular chapel. On the holy Friday, pasos marched into procession in the streets of Murcia.
