This small mountain village is located in the foothills of the White Mountains in a semi-mountainous and rural setting. Koustogarakos has a long history of resistance to various occupations and, during the last war, Manolis, one of the members of the Paterakis family, a resident of the village, participated in the kidnapping of General Kreipe. According to professor Panagiotakis, the painter El Greco (Domenico Thetokopoulos) was not born in Fodele but here. He relies on an inscription mentioning a Maria Thetokopoulos inside the Byzantine chapel Agios Giorgos located after the square. At the entrance of the village, after the memorial and the school, there is a tavern.
