An ancient city developed at the time of postminoenne, at a time when Cretan people ceased to have centralized habitat and dispersed into hundreds of small communities controlling their own territory. There was, however, a federation of cities of Crete created in the Fourth century BC under the leadership of Knossos and Gortyne, of which Poliniria and Crete were part. Poliniria means "many sheep" and probably lived its peak period in the Fifth and fourth centuries B.C. The city was Fortified: you can see leftover towers on the site. She was inhabited by terrible mountain warriors, who were living in sheep hunting and breeding. Some sources show that Poliniria was the Allié ally and maintained good relations with Rome (before colonization). Huge Roman stone tanks were then added. The site of the thick fortifications upstream of the current village of Poliniria, taking one of the trails, was probably abandoned due to lack of water. It has been rebuilt lower, where sources flow in abundance. We go to a church where part of the walls was built with stones carved from the Roman era.
