We would be tempted to rejoice at this small distance from the city center if it did not lead to noise pollution! The airport is small in size, despite the high density of air traffic in the high season: more than five million passengers a year! A new airport project is underway: it will be located in Kastelli, south-east of Heraklion, and the end of the work is planned for 2023! Meanwhile, the current airport offered a small lift in the spring of 2018. You will find many charters between Athens and Heraklion, and many other daily connections: for the islands, Thessaloniki and Cyprus. However, direct international flights stop at the end of October, but only in late April, for full season. Olympic Air, Aegan Airlines and Sky Express have a counter.
From the airport to the city center. Although taxis are enough to rally the city center (17 €, 15 minutes), you can also take the bus (except No. 5): The stop is at the exit of the airport on the large boulevard behind the taxi queue. Stops at the bus station, in front of the Astoria Capsis hotel at the entrance to the center and Ammoudara. To go to the airport by bus, take the Eleftherias square on the ramparts (departure every 10 minutes, 20 minutes drive; 1.20 € if you buy the ticket before boarding the bus, if not 2 €) or at the bus station. Buy your ticket in any newspaper kiosk or multilingual distributors located at the various stops.

Vaut mieux loger à l'ouest d'Héraklion.
Petit aéroport très vite saturé en haute saison.
La partie internationale post checking au res de chaussée est un vaste hall sans intérêt avec un petit duty assez minable...autant acheter ses souvenirs liquides ( tsikoudia et ouzo) avant et de les sécuriser au fond de la valise en soute. Par contre au premier étage, tout semble neuf avec un duty bien achalandé mais aux tarifs peu intéressants voire astronomiques notamment en ce qui concerne la restauration rapide
