The site of Gightis is located in the southeast of Tunisia, 80 kilometers from the city of Gabes and 60 kilometers from the city of Zarzis. Situated on the edge of the Gulf of Boughrara, Gightis forms, with the island of Djerba, a real inland sea very suitable for fishing, but also for trade with the rest of the Mediterranean. Gightis is an ancient Phoenician port, which the Romans had made one of the important bases of their maritime traffic in the Mediterranean, and one of the largest ports of antiquity. The port was wiped off the map by the Vandals. On this relatively wild stretch of coast, the site is now well developed.
