This temple is devoted to Mazu, the goddess of the Sea, from the island near Meizhou. Every year on the day of its birthday (the 23rd day of the 3rd lunar month), the temple fills itself with faithful, many from Taiwan. There are about 1 500 temples dedicated to Mazu around the world.
