Libraries to visit

The library has continued to attract crowds of students for over one hundred and fifty years (it opened its doors to the public in 1856). It was Lieutenant-Governor Charles Joseph La Trobe who initiated the building project in 1853, and the building's best-known room, the Trobe Reading Room, bears his name. The building changed its name over the years, eventually becoming the State Library Victoria, and it also expanded, resulting today in an impressive building where it's easy to get lost!
