This lagoon in Kakadu National Park is home to silver herons, white egrets, sacred ibises and spoonbills.

This lagoon gets its name from the carpet of yellow flowers that covers its waters during the flowering season. On its shores yodel everything that flies: silver herons and white egrets, sacred ibises and spoonbills, the majestic jabiru and brolga as well as the little jacana, nicknamed Jesus birds because they spend their time trotting delicately on the water lilies. Also look for the six species of kingfishers that inhabit the park. Don't miss the flat-bottom boat tours on Yellow Water. The tours last an hour and a half to two hours, and many of you will want to go back for a ride when you arrive! The first departure of the day with its festival of colorful birds, or the last one, with the sunset, an extraordinary spectacle with the landscape reflected on the water, are our favorites. Crocodiles will certainly be there, but also wallabies, colorful butterflies, buffalos, snakes in the trees, etc. The guides are humorous and knowledgeable, and sometimes local aborigines, who share their culture. There are a lot of tourists but you will still find serenity during the cruise. Don't forget the mosquito repellent. The cruises are unfortunately not free, but those who do not opt for this option can head to the 2.6 km boardwalk along the billabong, it is often easy to see beautiful birds or with a little luck, crocodiles!

endroit extraordinaire
