At the end of the Mitchell Highway tarmac, 800 kilometers from Sydney via Dubbo, another 50 kilometers via Cobar, Bourke is not only the home of the stockmen, the Australian cowboys, but also an Aboriginal town with more than a third of its population. Established in 1859, this historic town was once an important crossroads. Don't miss a visit to the Back O'Bourke. Cruises are available on the Darling River, where paddlewheel steamers operated until 1931. Nearby, don't miss a visit to Gundabooka National Park. Visit the tourist office for more information on walks and guided tours.
