PANAGIA MYRTIDIOTISSA

In this monastery you will see an icon of the Virgin found by a shepherd in the 13th century among the myrtles, hence the name of the monastery: Myrtidiotissa. What is unusual are the black faces of the Virgin and Child. The present monastery was only built in the 19th century, but the lush gardens surrounding the place are worth a visit. On August 15, a big feast is organized for the Virgin Mary, with a large buffet, and the inhabitants come from all over the island to party until the end of the night. To be recommended...
