MONASTERY OF SAINT GERASIMOS

On August 16, the day dedicated to Saint Gerasimos, some pilgrims go on their knees to the monastery. In 1560, Saint Gerasimos arrived in Omala and rebuilt the chapel of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, and at the same time established a convent with other members that he called "New Jerusalem". The saint's relics are preserved on site and attract many Orthodox pilgrims. Quite modern, some frescoes are nevertheless pretty and worth a visit.
