ST. MAMAS MONASTERY

The monastery is located on the southern part of the island, a 90-minute walk from Fri. Take the road leading to Poli and pass the old capital of the island. Beyond it, a path climbs up on the right to the now uninhabited monastery. It is a beautiful road, passing through steep landscapes and ruined terraces, before leading to a breathtaking view of the sea. The great panigyri of the monastery is celebrated on 2 September: if you are lucky enough to be around on that date, don't miss the chance to climb up there, it is a moving experience.
