Kalavria's Askeli Bay, with its pine-fringed villas and crystal-clear waters, is well worth a visit. Located on the promontory between Sferia and Kalavria, the village was home to King Otto's first residence, and is now home to the Poros Naval Station and Seamen's Training Academy, founded by King Otto in 1846. The village of Askeli features neoclassical buildings inspired by King Otto's summer palace, designed by Danish architect Hans Christian Hansen. Askeli is surrounded by two sandy beaches and offers rooms and apartments for rent, hotels, cafés, tavernas and a few stores.
