Further afield, Burqu's lake appears as a mirage in the middle of the desert. This oasis is home to many migratory birds crossing the region and there are more and more ornithologists. You can also stop near the th century Roman fort, which is still a nice tower. The fort was used to protect the caravan road and the oasis of Burqu'where merchants and their mounts stopped. The site continued to be inhabited especially during the Byzantine period as indicated by inscriptions. Walls and rooms were then added by the Umayyad. The landscape is particularly beautiful when, after an efficient rainy season, the waters of the lake arrive near the tower. The Bedouins in the region sometimes find themselves (by pick-up) for picnics. The site really deserves the detour but is too distant to be included in a one-day itinerary on the road of desert castles. You will need to take a tent to stay on site.
