Along 140 m long, it is the most isolated of desert castles but one of the most impressive. It was built in 743-744 by caliph omeyyade Walid II. A superb discovery on the site is displayed at the Archaeological museum in Amman (on the citadel site). The castle is unfortunately very difficult to access: It can only be reached in 4 X 4 by a 50 km road to the south of Highway No. 40 or by a 35 km runway west of Highway No. 5, which crosses the desert from Saudi Arabia to Iraq. It is better to use a guide.
