This small archaeological site is often forgotten by tourists. It is true that there is not much to see, but the road to get there, which crosses the countryside of Ajloun, is rather pleasant. The prophet Elijah (Elias, in Arabic), mentioned in the Koran and the Old Testament, is said to have been born near this place (around 910 BC). The site includes two ruined Byzantine churches, one from the 4th century and the other from the 6th century. They include beautiful mosaics that are well worth seeing. The surroundings of Tell Mar Elias can be the object of pleasant walks in the surrounding orchards and fields (see Ajloun Nature Reserve).
