In Cyrillic script: Паметник на Съветската армия. This gigantic monument that sits near downtown Sofia pays tribute to the soldiers of the Red Army for their victory in World War II. Built in 1954, it stands 34 m high, and symbolizes the Stalinist style in all its splendor. Object of debates of demolition or conservation, here is a good reason to go and see it before it disappears. The fresco on its base has been altered several times.
