Small church built on Roman ruins in the century, near the palace of Constantine the Great.
This small church, squeezed between government buildings and the Sheraton, is a true miracle relic. It was built on Roman ruins in the 4th century in the vicinity of the Palace of Constantius the Great. In the 16th century, during the reign of Sultan Selim I, the church was converted into a mosque before being used as a museum after the liberation in the 19th century. The walls of the small rotunda are decorated with frescoes dating from different periods from the tenth to fourteenth century.

C'est vrai qu'elle détonne au beau milieu de ces immeubles la toute petite église et c'est bien ça (au delà de l'aspect historique indéniable) qui fait son charme! Un des endroits les plus originaux de la capitale bulgare!

La meilleure curiosité de Sofia, qui permet de se rendre compte d'à quel point la ville peut être insolite. Étonnant de voir cette petite église ronde coincée entre les grands murs du palais présidentiel !

Originale cette église; de part son emplacement déjà et son architecture ensuite. Nous y sommes tombé en pleine messe et le côté mystique était au rendez-vous

More than the church itself, it is its location which is original! This very round church is located in the courtyard postpones common Presidency and Sheraton hotel. It is surrounded by roman ruins.
