BANYA BACHI MOSQUE (БАШИ ДЖАМИЯ БАШИ)

Built in 1567 by the architect Hadji Mimar Sinan, who was the architect of Sultan Selim's mosque in Edirne, Banya Bachi is the most beautiful and largest mosque in Sofia, and the only one where prayers can be heard five times a day. Since the interior can only accommodate 500 people, it is not uncommon to see the faithful praying on the sidewalk during major celebrations. It is one of the oldest mosques in Europe; its som means "many baths" in Turkish.
