MOUNT LAVINIA HOTEL

Once the home of the British governor, it was the site of his secret love for Lovina, a beautiful Sri Lankan woman. A tunnel - now condemned - connected the houses of the two lovers. It is from this tumultuous relationship that the city received its name. The hotel was transformed into a hospital for David Lean's film The Bridge on theRiver Kwai.
