Nicknamed "the island of resorts" or "the island of festivals", it's the best-known place in the Davao del Norte region. Its full name is Island Garden City of Samal and the island is located in the Gulf of Davao. It is Davao's premier tourist destination, with excellent resorts attracting beach lovers, scuba divers, caves and waterfalls. Visitors will find everything they could wish for: white sandy beaches, rich seabed, lush vegetation, caves and waterfalls, as well as picturesque settings with houses on stilts and fishing villages. Although most of the inhabitants make their living from fishing, some still cultivate pearls.
