This 3 112 km ² area includes wooded mountains, wet steppes and many streams, such as the Degee and Numrug rivers. The natural characteristics of this area are very different from the rest of Mongolia, since the local fauna and flora are similar to those found in Manchuria. Its very strong irrigation allowed the development of pine, white birch and willows. The area houses mammals that do not exist in the rest of the country, such as elk or otters. Rare birds nest in this protected area: various species of geese, white ridge cranes, large black shrikes......
