The capital of theaimag is located in the mountains, between the Tayshiryn and Khasagt Khayrkhan ranges. Perched at 2,181 meters above sea level, it is the highest city in the country. With only 18,000 inhabitants, it is also the smallest of the Mongolian province capitals. There is not much to do there, except to visit the typical museum of the region or to go to the market. In September however, it hosts a small festival of the Golden Eagle, where you can admire the Kazakhs perpetuating the traditional eagle hunt. With about 40 participants, this event is worth a visit to immerse yourself in the local culture.
