This airport is not really used since the inauguration of the new Chinggis Khaan International Airport in June 2021. Formerly an international airport, Buyant-Ukhaa is now only semi-operational, serving mostly as a back-up airport and operating some government and special flights. It is not impossible that it will be used in the coming years for domestic flights as well. For the time being, however, the majority of travelers are using the new airport.
