SOLIO RANCH
This huge private ranch is in fact a beautiful game reserve of 76 km², where you can easily observe giraffes, buffalos, antelopes, zebras and gazelles in the middle of beautiful landscapes. There are no elephants here, which has the advantage of protecting the splendid yellowfever acacia trees that characterize the vegetation of Solio. But the big attraction of this private sanctuary is the rhinos. Or rather the rhinos, as there are many of them enjoying this haven of peace which is entirely dedicated to them, since 1970. Thanks to a conservation program, they breed and grow up here in complete safety (the reserve is guarded and fenced in its entirety) before being transferred to the country's various parks (Nakuru, Ol Pejeta, Lewa, in particular). The reserve is located about 20 km north of Nyeri on the road to Nyahuhuru. A sign indicates the entrance. Reservations can be made from Nairobi through travel agencies or at the two major hotels in Nyeri. The Rhino Watch Safari Lodge and the splendid Solio Lodge (inside the reserve) can be the basis for an idyllic stay. But you can also come directly to the ranch gate with your own vehicle (attention, 4WD required). You can either take a guide at the entrance or let yourself be guided by your instinct (the ranch is small and a detailed map is available on site). The visit is really pleasant.
