It was founded in 1579 by the Jesuits. It was one of the largest centres of higher education in Eastern Europe until 1832, when it was closed by the Russians and reopened in 1919, when the country gained its first independence. The whole university was formed over the course of a few centuries, which is why there are examples of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and classical architecture. Cela vaut la peine de s'y arrêter
Très bel édifice dans Vilnius avec une grande cour intérieure et une église qui vaut le détour. N'hésitez pas à y faire un tour !

Vieille université
Nous avons visité l'université. Nous pensions visité la bibliothèque mais cela n'était pas prévu. On peut visiter l'église Saint Jean qui est à l'intérieur de l'Université, mais rien de bien merveilleux.

La visite de l'université de Vilnius est un MUST.

Rien que la blbloothèque vaut de détour...( plus de 5000 livres réunis dans une pièce splendide)

Mais le plus important tient de l'architechture ( baroque néo-classique etc..).;qui est remarquable
Une visite en haut du clocher de l'églice s'impose!!!!!

To visit during a stay in Vilnius. The inner courtyards of the university are magnificent. It is in the city centre but in a tiny street, not necessarily easy to find.
