MUSEUM OF ART AND REGIONAL STUDIES

In 1938 the museum was opened to promote and popularize the history and art of the town of Daugavpils. Gradually, the collections were enriched with the objects found during the archaeological excavations of the river, the lake and the nearby castle. The museum is dedicated to the history of the town and the Latgale region. Its main interest, however, lies in the permanent exhibition of Mark Rothko, a 20th century painter (1903-1970). There are also temporary exhibitions.
