A little further north, in the coastal tip, still in the Kurzeme (Northern Curonian Spit) region, between Cape Kolka and Mazirbe, the Slītere nature reserve is a nature sanctuary. The fauna (birds, beavers, deer, elk) and flora (pine trees 35 m high and said to be 500 years old) have been protected there since 1921. In this park, portions of tundra, taiga and temperate zone cohabit. Between Mazirbe and Dundaga, an observation tower will allow you to see things from above and to admire the birds, especially during their spring migration when they massively gather above Cape Kolka.
