Besieged by Fidel and his companions on July 26, 1953, this old barracks, thesecond stronghold of the country, will be transformed, in 1959, year of the victory over the dictatorship of Batista, into the ciudad escolar 26 de Julio (school city of July 26). The historical museum was installed in 1967 in the building next to the post office, where the fighting took place. To see: photos, documents, weapons, uniforms related to the attack of the barracks and to the history of the struggles for independence.

La visite s'impose à quiconque s'intéresse à l'histoire de l'ile. L'impact des balles sur la façade est impressionnante, à l'entrée on découvrir une classe avec des élèves à l'heure des cours avant de pénétrer dans le bâtiment : nombreux objets (carte de visite de Fidel), toutes les explications pour comprendre l'attaque de la caserne...
