Built on a hill formerly known as Peña Pobre (Poor Rock) and later Loma del Angel (Angel Hill), the Church of the Guardian Angel was declared an auxiliary parish in 1690. The current neo-Gothic building dates from 1866 and is one of the best examples of 19th century religious architecture. Its caramel-colored bell tower is bristling with thin spires ready to take off into the blue. At the back of the building, twenty-three steps lead to the foot of the hill.
