100 m from the Hotel Méridien de Lattakia. A few kilometres south of Ugarit, in the westernmost corner of Syria, a peninsula has been a strategic point for communication.Judging the site requires a lot of imagination because there is little left. Excavations conducted since 1975 by a Franco-Syrian mission have delivered the remains of a contemporary city of Ugarit, with two palaces, one of which is similar to the Royal palace but of a larger dimension. It seems that the building was founded by a king of Ugarit. Workshops as well as a library were also found. Destroyed during the great invasion of 1200 BC, the site nevertheless resumed life. A fortress, several towers emerge, was built in the th century BC. The last phase of significant occupation of the site dates back to the th Centuries.
