This Chinese Buddhist temple was rebuilt in 1982 on the site of a first temple dating from 1884. Dedicated to Kwan Im, also known as Guan Yin, the goddess of mercy, the temple served as a refuge for the sick and destitute during the Japanese occupation. Today, it is one of the most popular and lively temples in Singapore. At the entrance, under umbrellas, there are fortune tellers, lotus flower sellers and even bird sellers.
