Huvahendhoo, an island measuring 550 meters x 100 meters, is initially known for the remarkable diving spots that surround it. In the spring of 2009, its hotel reopened as the Lily Beach Resort & Spa, moving upmarket to become a classic luxury hotel. They have focused on the beautiful lagoon by building a number of villas, restaurant, bar and spa on stilts. If the lagoon is the source of a beautiful blue dream, it is unfortunately threatened by rising waters and erosion. The corals around the beach are all dead and concrete blocks have been built to protect it, which spoils the picture postcard image that emerges.
