JUMHOOREE MAIDAN

This vast square was cleared and built in 1989 to celebrate the Maldivian Republic. The square runs along the north jetty of Malé and has quickly become a place for strolling and meeting. Families meet there in the evening to play with their children, young people gather with friends to talk about everything and anything... The few benches are quickly occupied at the end of the day. A giant Maldives flag flies under the windows of the president's office.
