HOSAY - ST JAMES

Hosay parades take place in two of Trinidad's Shiite communities: St. James in the western part of Port of Spain and Cedros in the south. The colorful St. James procession is the largest (five tajahs) and attracts thousands of spectators of all faiths every year. The Shiites of St. James spend a lot of time and money building miniature temples(tadjahs, taziyas, hosays, mausoleums) from bamboo, wood, paper and garlands to represent the tomb of Hussain, the martyr celebrated on this day.
