The fortifications of San Fernando are on the other side of the bay. There are two more or less sporty options to reach them, by lancha or, for the most courageous, by kayak. After the departure of the Spaniards following the independence obtained in 1821, all the forts were plundered by the inhabitants who used the stones, beams or scrap metal to improve their own houses. From the fort, a path climbs up the hill to the Mirador El Perú, which again offers a beautiful view of the bay.
