Just after the Pont de l'Abattoir, the Fort de la Nativité is a small bastion built in the 17th century, around 1616, which could only accommodate a dozen soldiers and four artillery pieces. It was the main defense area of the city to the west and one of the few military constructions built in this sense in the city. It is possible that Henry Morgan and his band of pirates laid siege to the city by entering through the Slaughterhouse Bridge and attacking this small fort. The ruins of the wall on the south side of the town bear witness to its past.
