Mount Bental is an ancient volcano rising to an altitude of 1,165m, the summit of which can be reached via the Merom Golan kibbutz. It offers some very fine views, particularly of Mount Hermon and Syria. There's an amazing café and a network of military observation points. The view of the ghost town of Kuneitra (Syria) is without doubt the saddest in the region. Destroyed by Tsahal in the wake of the Yom Kippur War, Syria decided to leave the traces of destruction as a reminder of the war. Further south, the Ein Zivan kibbutz, founded in 1968, was the first to initiate the process of privatization of common property in the 2000s.
