JOSEPH'S TOMB

Joseph's Tomb is a sacred site for Jews (Joseph, Jacob's son, is said to be buried there) and of religious and political importance for Palestinians (burial place of local sheikh Youssef Dweikat). Under Palestinian administration, it has become the object of numerous conflicts between Jewish settlers, who are multiplying, and Palestinians. An unfortunate symbol of the renewed tensions in the Nablus region. To this day, visits are forbidden because of the danger involved: Jewish pilgrims are accompanied by the army in armoured vehicles.
