There's a good network of city buses (Egged buses), operating from 5.30 a.m. to midnight (until around 4 p.m. on Fridays and from around an hour after sunset on Saturdays). They'll take you wherever the more convenient and modern streetcar can't. A ticket for a trip around town costs 5.90 NIS. Don't forget your Rav-kav card: paper tickets are no longer available on the buses. And don't forget to load it before you get on: drivers can't add money to your card.
