The Greek Villa Kérylos, a truly exceptional place and an important promotional tool for the town of Beaulieu, was in the spotlight this Tuesday. The Institut de France, owner of the site, has ceded the management of the villa to the Centre des Monuments Nationaux for 10 years, an alliance celebrated on 12 April last on the terrace of the Greek villa, since 1 January 2016. Following this news, we propose you to plunge back into the history of this mythical place.
A creation by Theodore Reinach
Villa Kérylos, a residence inspired by Greek architecture and the Belle Epoque villas that flourished on the French Riviera, was built in 1908. It is the result of a meeting between its owner Theodore Reinach, a true lover of Greek civilization, and Emmanuel Pontremoli, architect and member of the Academy of Fine Arts.
The villa in the hands of the Institut de France
In 1928, on the death of Théoore Reinach, the Greek villa Kérylos was bequeathed to the Institut de France. It will be transformed into a museum and opened to the public before being classified as a Historic Monument in 1966
2016, the Centre for National Monuments
As soon as the management of the Villa was taken over last January, the Centre for National Monuments has already made some changes. The opening hours have been modified in order to facilitate and multiply visits to the site as much as possible. During the summer, the first floor will be open to the public who will be able to visit the "private space" and the rooms of the Greek villa
