This hotel-restaurant, which has seen generations of holidaymakers come and go, is set in the heart of a forest of oaks and pines, in the Bois de la Chaise district. The rooms are spread over several single-storey buildings in the Vendée style, around a park in which a pretty terrace takes pride of place in fine weather. Some have a terrace right in front of the room. Each room is tastefully furnished, with antique furniture combined with contemporary fabrics, and features a small sitting area and a balcony or terrace overlooking the garden. Breakfast was, unusually, table service - not a buffet.
Never got a chance to sample their dinner service as the restaurant was full for the period we stayed. Book ahead if you really want to sample their food.
The owners couldn't have done more to help us.
